South Bay Liberty on the Rocks (VENUE CHANGED)

This is a little different than past events as Sonoma Chicken Coop is a restaurant, but they do serve hard liquor, so it’s still “On the Rocks.” 😉

Please RSVP on the facebook group so that we can have an appropriate space!

Bay Area Liberty on the Rocks

The folks from the Liberty on the Rocks Bay Area are currently looking for a venue to meet at inside of San Francisco.  If anyone has ideas on a good venue to meet please send an email to Theresa at t.flick@msn.com.

We had to postpone the August event to early September for two reasons.

1. We received many emails from a large number of our regular members who have schedule conflicts on the last two weekends in August and won’t be able to attend. In order to make it available to the maximum number of people in our group, we are pushing the event back until after the Labor Day holiday.

2. We were unable to locate an appropriate venue in San Francisco. The people planning the event are located in the South Bay and unfamiliar with the city. We didn’t get enough feedback from SF-ers to locate somewhere that would work, and internet research failed to produce a location that could reserve space for such a large group with no fee on a Friday night. In the event that we don’t get some feedback/help from someone in the city who can help us find a venue that meets our criteria, we are going to have to move this event to Berkeley.

I apologize for any inconvenience! Hope to see you all in September!

Festival of Politics, Community, and Art

The Seasteading Institute Announces the First Annual

Ephemerisle Festival of Politics, Community, and Art

The Seasteading Institute is excited to announce that public registration is open for the first annual Ephemerisle Festival, being held October 2-4, 2009 in the Sacramento River Delta. Ephemerisle is a floating festival of politics, community, and art in celebration of political freedom and diversity. Opportunities to connect, learn, and play will abound: there will be music, dance, open mic performances, and even classes on how to build your own floating platform.

Ephemerisle will not be a spectator event, though there will be plenty to see. Participants will shape the festival’s very foundation by bringing their boats, rafts and unique homebuilt floating structures to expand the event’s central platform. They will also bring their own art, activities, and ideas to shape the Ephemerisle experience.

This event has been over 8 years in the making. Back in 2001, tired of people talking about alternative social systems instead of trying them out, TSI’s founder Patri Friedman envisioned a floating festival in international waters. Participants would gather to temporarily live their own utopian visions, and return enriched and inspired to turn those dreams into real societies. In 2009, this dream will finally become a reality.

Ephemerisle will provide a fun and innovative venue for the public to get their first taste of seasteading. We intend to stretch Ephemerisle every year, growing it in size and duration, and also moving it further and further out towards international waters, until it becomes a de facto seastead city. We aren’t content to simply dream of a freer world: we want to live it! This will be a long process — but it starts this October.

Great slideshow on tax economics

This was the grand prize winner of the Slideshare/Fuze slide storytelling contest. Thought it was a good lesson on tax policies and unintended consequences.

East Bay Liberty on the Rocks: Friday, June 26 at Berkeley

Okay, I just got a call from Jun Dam, who will be hosting the East Bay event this month. It seems that Walnut Creek will be a more central location for those of you that are in the East Bay. At least this is his hypothesis based on conversations with people at our events.

The June 26 event will now be held at Pyramid Alehouse in Walnut Creek, CA

1410 Locust Street

Walnut Creek, CA 94596
(925) 946-1520

Remember to bring a liberty-minded friend with you to the event! Look forward to catching up with y’all on the East Side. :)

There will be a SPECIAL GIVEAWAY to those of you that make it to this event. It’s a secret, so you’ll have to come to find out what it is.

Please post in comments if you’ll be driving there, need a ride, where you’ll be coming from, etc.

On Facebook we already have a request for a ride from the South Bay.
