LOTR Happy Hour: Discussing Political Authority w/ Prof. Huemer of CU Boulder

Join us this Wednesday for another Liberty on the Rocks Denver happy hour!

social contract

RSVP on Facebook

The theme for this week’s event is political authority. Where does political authority come from? By what mechanism does the Constitution bind us all? Can we as individuals morally say “no” to government officials? Why do people view an IRS agent collecting taxes differently than extortion from the mafia? Philosophy Professor Michael Huemer of CU-Boulder will address these issues of political authority and the many problems with social contract theory this Wednesday at Choppers Sports Bar and Grill in Cherry Creek.

We will kick things off at 6:30 with another liberty speak out contest to see who gets to wear the crown! Anyone is welcome to participate and/or cheer on their favorite liberty advocate.

As always, we will meet in the back room of Choppers Sports Grill in Cherry Creek from 6-9pm. Join in anytime, and bring your friends!

Counter SEIU Rally to be held at the State Capitol!

The Northern Colorado Tea Party is organizing a counter protest against the upcoming “Union Solidarity Action Rallies” taking place across the country, including at our State Capitol in Denver.

The counter rally will meet:

“… on the sidewalk on the west side of the Capitol – where we will express our First Amendment rights and cannot be asked to leave.”

The rally is to take place from 12:00-1:30.

They ask attendees to, “Bring your signs, your flags, your friends – or just bring your body down on your lunch break.”

RSVP or get more information on the Tea Party Counter-Rally here.

Liberty on the Rocks supports the philosophy that governments should not spend more than then they bring in through taxes; and should not take from taxpayers more than is necessary. We encourage you to attend this rally as a way to educate and inform others – to discuss the fact that we have an unsustainable debt problem that must be addressed immediately. There is no doubt this will be painful, but we must all be willing to give up certain government “hand-outs”, starting with those not permitted by the US Constitution.

Disclaimer: Liberty on the Rocks is a 501(c)(3) non-partisan organization and does not endorse specific legislation and/or candidates. We support liberty, which includes being free from debt that is racked up by others in our name.

Happy Hour @ Choppers Sports Grill!

Join fellow liberty lovers for happy hour  and political conversation Wednesday, February 2nd at Choppers Sports Grill!

This is the place to network, converse, learn and share and to meet new people in the liberty movement. What better way to stay connected than to share drinks in a warm bar over great conversation?! This is also the place to learn about local groups, causes and events in the Denver area.

Look for us in the dining room – we will have a sign posted and literature strewn about!

Also – if you are looking to polish up on your communication skills and love a good natured debate with friends, then join us from 6-7PM for our second Political Mock Debate!  This fun exercise is open to anyone and we are looking for volunteers. We need participants on the pro and anti-liberty side (we need you to *pretend* to be anti-liberty of course!), 1-3 judges and members of the audience. Our first debate was a great success! We had a ton of fun and discussed some new ideas for promoting our viewpoints. For our next debate the topic will be: What Role should the Government Play when it comes to Fixing the Economy?

To participate in next weeks mock debate (not a real debate, mind you), please sign up here.
