Liberty on the Rocks Happy Hour: Discussing the Financial Crisis

Join fellow liberty enthusiasts this Wednesday night at Choppers Sports Grill for happy hour, networking, and a brief discussion about the economic recession and the economy.

We will be joined by special guest Brian Ochsner, a political activist with an extensive financial background. He will provide a short presentation on the topic: “What Caused The Financial/Economic Crisis… What We Can Do to Get Out of It… and How Liberty Activists Can Protect Themselves From an Economic Downturn.”

During this brief discussion, Brian will reveal the causes of the financial recession, and share his insights on the only two options currently available to the federal government to fix our economic problems; explaining which option is the best, and which one is the most dangerous (guess which option our government has taken?!). Finally, he will provide tips and strategies for what liberty-minded people can do to protect their wealth and weather this ‘perfect financial storm.’

When: Wednesday, February 1st from 6-9pm
Where: Choppers Sports Grill | 80 S. Madison Street in Denver

Charleston Liberty on the Rocks at the Blind Tiger

Okay, look… You know how you’ve got that friend that is kinda-sorta interested in politics, (but wouldn’t be caught dead at a political function?)

And you know how you can tell that they’re the type to support individual liberty and free markets (but wouldn’t be caught dead at a political function?)

This is your chance. Drag them along to a Liberty on the Rocks. It’s liberty. It’s “on the rocks.” It’s a good time.

More importantly, it’s about as “safe” an entry point into the world of politics as you’ll find.

So join us on June 7, and be sure to bring your non-political political friends.

Attention Liberty Enthusiasts and Lovers of Freedom:

Join Liberty on the Rocks tomorrow evening for a fun and informative night at Choppers Sports Grill in Cherry Creek. We’ve got lots of fun activities planned in addition to having plenty of social networking opportunities!

What: Mock Debate, Social Networking & Intro to Liberty Toastmasters
Where: Choppers Sports Grill (back room) | 80 S. Madison Street in Denver
When: Wednesday, June 1 from 6-9 PM

Mock Debate

Join us from 6-7 PM as we host our traditional mock debate. Our topic tomorrow will be “Should Grocery Stores be Allowed to Sell Full Strength Alcohol?”

This activity encourages us to act like progressives in order to test our abilities to communicate our ideals. It’s always hilarious to watch, in addition to being fun and educational. We always break down the arguments afterward, allowing the audience to provide their input as they sip on cold beverages and munch on great food!

LOTR Presents Liberty Toastmasters (LTM)!

Are you interested in becoming a better communicator when it comes to expressing your love for freedom? Do you believe that one-on-one conversations can be powerful, yet you need more practice discussing the issues in a well thought out manner? Then Liberty Toastmasters is for you!

This Wednesday, we will be joined by a few members of the Denver Tech Center Liberty Toastmasters group, who will be demonstrating one of the activities we participate in every other week: Table Topics.

Attendees will watch as current LTM members demonstrate the art of speaking off the cuff, in addition to having the chance to participate themselves. At this LOTR happy hour, you will learn more about what goes on at the LTM meetings, and will have a better sense for what it’s all about. That way, you can decide for yourself if you’d like to attend an actual meeting to learn more! Check out their website for more information on the club.

I hope to see you tomorrow night for our bi-monthly happy hour in Denver. Feel free to bring your friends!

June 6th Meetup with CNN’s Jim Spellman

Up on the Roof with a “National” Perspective!

We hope everyone takes advantage of this opportunity for an “off the record” Q&A with national, award-winning, CNN journalist, Jim Spellman!  He was originally scheduled for our May 16th meetup, but had to travel out of town to cover the devastation in the south and the Joplin tornado.  He is back in town, and we hope it will be a slow news period so that he isn’t called away again.

Over his decade of work at CNN, Mr. Spellman has covered homeland security, terrorism, and politics, and traveled extensively as a producer for Anderson Cooper 360. Since moving to Denver in 2008, he has reported extensively on the Tea Party movement, attending well over 50 tea party events across the country.

He won his first Peabody award for coverage of Hurricane Katrina and has since received two additional Peabody awards. Recent top stories include covering the BP oil spill from the Gulf coast and the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.

I would be happy to hold a July 4th meetup if we have enough interest. Realizing this is a busy family and travel weekend, I will need your input before making a decision. Please email or send me a FB message immediately:

Would you be able to attend and if so, would the morning, afternoon, or evening work best. One thought that I had was to meet in the morning at a park in Golden, before most have family commitments, for a breakfast get together. Would anyone be interested in hosting a get together at their home? Let me know

Colorado Springs LOTR events / discussions can cover subjects on just about every liberty-oriented topic there is.  We encourage participation  and the sharing of ideas. So come on out to happy hour, enjoy a beer and join us. The purpose is to get us talking to each other about our viewpoints on different topics, so we may become better aware of what we believe and why, and what we have no opinion on (yet!). There is no doubt about it – this will be the most fun you’ve ever had while learning at the same time!

Liberty on the Rocks is THE place to meet others interested in free market and/or liberty-oriented principles. It is also the happy hour for you if you’re interested in getting better informed or involved in the liberty movement.

Colorado Springs LOTR  is proud to promote free market and/or liberty-based institutions and groups, both local and across the country. When attending a Liberty on the Rocks happy hour, be sure to grab information near the door to learn about think tanks and groups in your area.

Gary Johnson Visits Liberty on the Rocks Charleston for Happy Hour!

He’s climbed Mount Everest, competed in the IronMan Triathalon, served two terms as Governor of New Mexico* (where he cut state payroll by 1,000 employees and vetoed more bills than all 49 other Governors combined).

And now he’s coming to Charleston for a Liberty on the Rocks cocktail hour.

Monday, April 25th at 5 pm at the Mills House Hotel on the patio.

*(Oh, and he’s running for President of the United States.)

Mount Diablo Liberty on the Rocks

We will begin having this meetup in Walnut Creek every first Wednesday of the month. Pyramid was very accommodating and I got comments on facebook from other people who saw us which was great! You don’t even have to come for the whole event. Come by late or leave early and participate in the socializing of East Bay Liberty Lovers.

When:  Wednesday May 4th 6:30 pm

Where: Pyramid Alehouse

1410 Locust Street

Walnut Creek   CA

This time, everyone try to bring at least 1 friend or family member. What would be awesome would be to bring someone who may not yet have an interest in politics or is scared away by activism but cares about these issues.

I am working on the logistics of speakers/30 second soap box with the restaurant so the larger  our group becomes, the better it will be for solidifying speakers/areas at these places.

See you at our next meetup!

May 2nd — “Meet Up” with Mitchell & Ramirez in Lakewood!

Senator Shawn Mitchell & Representative Robert Ramirez — Up On The Roof!

With special guest emcee Justin Everett, presenting:

“2011 Colorado Legislative Wrap-up”

Really? What a trifecta! Our dynamic, engaging, and talented emcee and a delegate to the 2004 national GOP convention. The always debonair Justin Everett has pulled together a special team (a seasoned vet from the Senate, along with a political “newbie” from the House) to bring you the highlights and low lights of another legislative session soon to come to a close.

Senator Mitchell is a Senior Fellow of the Independence Institute, president of the Colorado chapter of the Federalist Society, and a favorite of Liberty. This multi-talented senator is not only an intellectual and amazingly quick witted, but he is most certainly destined for higher office (Run Shawn Run!). Senator Mitchell has consistently fought for fiscal conservatism and smaller government on behalf of his Colorado constituents since being elected into the state house in 1999.

Representative Ramirez, a Jersey boy, Eagle Scout, and entrepreneur, served our country in the Navy and is currently a “shake ‘em up” freshman Colorado legislator. He sits on the House Transportation and Education committees. (Rep. Ramirez also generously contributed a way cool campaign jacket to our Liberty holiday fund raising event held this past December).

This should be another amazing Liberty meetup. Think sunshine and let’s hope for our first happy hour on the roof top patio this year!
