San Francisco Meets for Happy Hour!

Come to Chevy’s next Friday to meet like minded individuals for drinks and discussion. All are welcome! Bring a friend.

When: Friday, April 22, 7:00pm

Where: Chevy’s | 201 3rd Street in San Francisco, CA

This will be the first meetup of the San Francisco area group. Attendees are welcome and encouraged to attend the events not specifically in their area but we will be having a meetup regularly in each area to get our presence out there.

Our Walnut Creek meetup was a success, lets keep it rolling!

Be sure to go to the correct Chevy’s as there are a few close together. This is at the Chevy’s on 3rd street South of Market. Give me a call or shoot me an email if you have any questions or issues!

We have an open-ended table reservation but will most likely do what we did in Walnut Creek where we take over some bar tables which can’t be reserved. There is no limit to the RSVP list and you don’t have to RSVP to show up although it will make the accomodations easier if you do.

Regards!

Mount Diablo Happy Hour!

We will begin having this meetup in Walnut Creek every first Wednesday of the month. Pyramid was very accommodating and I got comments on facebook from other people who saw us which was great! You don’t even have to come for the whole event. Come buy late or leave early and participate in the socializing of East Bay Liberty Lovers.

When:  Wednesday May 4th 6:30 pm

Where: Pyramid Alehouse

1410 Locust Street
Walnut Creek   CA

This time, everyone try to bring at least 1 friend or family member. What would be awesome would be to bring someone who may not yet have an interest in politics or is scared away by activism but cares about these issues.

I am working on the logistics of speakers/30 second soap box with the restaurant so the larger  our group becomes, the better it will be for solidifying speakers/areas at these places.

See you at our next meetup!

April 18th — Education on Tap!

Education’s “Rocket Man” — Randy DeHoff – Up On The Roof!

April 18, 2011

Tax day cometh, and what better way to put it behind you than to meet with friends at the hottest “educational drink tank” in town! Education will be on tap, as our special guest will be Randy DeHoff (who really is a rocket scientist). We will discuss online learning, 21st century learning, the need (or not) for bricks and mortar, 24/7 education, and a non-traditional calendar to name just a few. Join us for what will surely be a lively discussion about the future of education!

Mr. DeHoff is currently the Director of Strategic Growth for GOAL (Guided Online Academic Learning) Academy, a Colorado public high school. He is also a former Colorado Department of Education board member, former Executive Director of the Charter School Institute, and a strong advocate of real paradigm changes in education.

One other Liberty note: if you don’t know Big Government Gary, check out some of his recent videos

ATR organizes the TAXPAYER PROTECTION PLEDGE, which asks all candidates for federal and state office to commit themselves in writing to oppose all tax increases. In the 112th Congress, 237 House members and 41 Senators have taken the pledge. On the state level, 13 governors and 1249 state legislators have taken the pledge.

Norquist chairs the Washington, DC – based “Wednesday Meeting,” a weekly gathering of more than 150 elected officials, political activists, and movement leaders. The meeting started in 1993 and takes place in ATR’s conference room. There are now 61 similar “center-right” meetings in 47 states.

Jan. 17th meetup — Ken Summers and Education Reform

Ken Summers – Up On The Roof!

“Education Paradigm”
Liberty On The Rocks (Red Rocks) Happy Hour
January 17, 2011

Liberty kicks off 2011 and MLK day with our goals for education and peaceful citizen advocacy in the forefront, with our very special guest, Representative Ken Summers!

Location: Old Chicago (upstairs) | 145 Union Boulevard, Lakewood, CO

Is education a choice? Do great teachers, students, parents, or the union make for great student achievement? Have we lost our way? Is Jeffco really a “local” district? If you get what you pay for, why do we not pay school board members? Do great teachers make great leaders and business executives? Will more money and more union input truly make for better students?

Bring your questions for Colorado’s own HD 22 state rep, Ken Summers. Rep. Summers sits on the state education committee at the capitol, is a pastor, and just one darn nice fellow! He will take on your questions about education reform, school choice, vouchers, and so much more. And I give you my word that even though he will be speaking in Jeffco, we won’t “CENSURE” him. To learn more about Rep. Summers, please visit http://kensummers.org.

Tons of great news and upcoming events, so pay attention! WARNING: THIS UPDATE IS LONGER THAN NORMAL, BUT WE ARE LAYING A FOUNDATION FOR 2011, SO PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ ALL!

First a special thank you to Red Rocks’ members and leaders!
Thank you all for making our 2nd annual holiday party and fundraiser a success!!!
Check out the press we received:

And say hello to the two fiery redheads that will rock Jeffco in 2011!
Regan Benson, Community Activist for Jeffco Schools Accountability Group, is leading the charge for education reform in Jeffco. Her group will lead the way to ensure our school district is acting responsibly for every child and every tax dollar. No small task, so help Regan and jump on board. Our “David” cannot do it against this “Goliath” without your help! Contact Regan at communityforums4us@gmail.com or follow her on her Facebook page.

Brenda Smull is starting a west side chapter of Liberty Toastmasters, (a themed club focused on the US Constitution), which will help you:
* Improve your communication and leadership skills
* Increase your effectiveness at meetings and interviews
* Think clearly when answering impromptu questions
The group meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month.
Meetings will be held at Stevinson West (6th and Indiana) in Lakewood.
First meeting will be an exception to the rule and this demonstration meeting will be held on Thursday Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m.at the Sheriff’s Station 8100 Shaffer Pkwy, Suite 100 Littleton, CO 80127
Email Brenda to RSVP and to ask any questions: bsmull@digital.net

Citizen Advocates’ Network is a great new networking group that I have recently established. Citizen Advocates’ Network is an informal group of concerned citizens choosing to defend their constitutional rights and promote free markets, individual rights, and limited government. The “C.A.N. Do” members will champion issues such as transparency, accountability, education reform, fiscal responsibility, property rights, other civic issues, and a return to Liberty-focused values. We encourage members to lead by example. If you believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and prefer to be a responsible citizen with limited nanny intrusions, this is your group! When you have an issue near and dear to you, please bring it to the groups’ attention and lead the fight.

Information can be found at our FB group page: Citizen Advocates’ Network, so please be sure to request to be added if you are on FB. Also, be sure to adjust your settings on FB if you don’t want to receive an e-mail each time we post to the wall at C.A.N.

For folks that follow us via e-mail, we have started a google group for those interested in participating in the Citizen Advocates’ Network. E-mail (sacco@LibertyOnTheRocks.org) and I will add you to the group.

Those folks participating in the C.A.N. Group or who are interested in Regan’s Students First group may want to begin to get up to speed on Jeffco school issues by attending the next board of education study session this upcoming Thursday at 7p.m. Details about the study session are posted at http://www.jeffcopublicschools.org/board/index.html.
Also, if you have any ideas, school choice week begins January 23-29th and Liberty would be interested in hosting an event if you have any suggestions. Details about school choice week at http://schoolchoiceweek.com.
